Synder Cut Release Date Announced! What does it Mean?

On 20th May, the news which millions of fans across the globe were awaiting for finally happened. The release of the Synder Cut of Justice League on HBO Max in 2021

Fans have been clamouring for its release ever since Synder put out a post on his Vero account confirming its existence.

Along with Synder, actors Jason Momoa, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot all put out posts on their respective social media handles with the hashtag #ReleaseTheSynderCut with images from that version. The post which gathered the most attention was Momoa’s which showed Steppenwolf being killed by Aquaman.

Another reveal which majorly surprised fans was a post by Zack Snyder which confirmed that Henry Cavill would be donning the infamous Black Superman suit for the film.

A majority of the reason why fans were clamouring for the release was due to the unfortunate circumstances in which Zack Snyder’s last film Justice League was completed.

Synder had to leave the film during post production due to the unfortunate death of his daughter. At that point of time, director Joss Whedon of Avengers fame was roped in to finish the film. The film received a lot of backlash when it released as it went against the direct style that Synder was known for.

Joss Whedon, who had only directed two Marvel movies at that point, adapted his style of colors which was a direct opposite to Synder’s dark and gritty style which was seen in earlier movies such as 300 and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Also Whedon cut multiple characters including Darkseid, Ares, Desaad, Antiope, Ryan Choi, Elinore Stone, Iris West, and Vulko.

The film’s cinematographer Fabian Wagner also claimed that the shots used by Whedon was only 10% of what he actually shot for the film.

The Synder cut has a supposed run time of 3 hours 30 minutes, while the released one had a runtime of just two hours.

Images from the Synder cut have surfaced and these are already adding a new perspective.

Although it seemed in the beginning that Synder was having trouble releasing his cut of the films, fans have also pointed out that it all might have been a marketing stunt and climax of which occurred with the announcement of the film’s release on HBO Max.

At this point, Synder is assembling a team for post production to add some additional changes such as visual effects, voice overs and background music. During an interview with Hollywood Reporter, he revealed that the initial Justice League film that audiences saw was just about ¼ of what the film was. The additional cost for post production will be close to $20-$30 million
